Evie Larmond Louden Scholarship in the Health Professionals(March through April)

Award Overview

The Evie Larmond Louden Scholarship Award is a $1,500 annual scholarship designed to support undergraduate students of Caribbean descent pursuing studies in the health profession, including health sciences. The scholarship funds can be made payable directly to the recipient's institution or can be used for tuition, books, and other educational expenses. Established by the Caribbean Community Association (CCA) to honor Ms. Evie Larmond Louden’s passion for education and her decade-long leadership as CCA President, this award seeks to empower aspiring health professionals in Hillsborough and Pasco counties.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

● Residency: Be a resident of Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties.

● Enrollment:

○ Be enrolled in an accredited vocational institution pursuing certification or licensure in health-related fields such as:

Paramedics

Medical Assistants

Dental Assistants/Hygienists

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)

○ OR be enrolled in a two-year community college pursuing an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in health sciences.

○ OR be enrolled in a four-year college pursuing an undergraduate degree in the health profession, including mental health.

○ Individuals pursuing pre-health studies at the college level are also eligible to apply.

● Academic Level: Be an undergraduate student. Graduate students are not eligible.

● Heritage: Be of Caribbean descent.

● Financial Need: Demonstrate financial need through a personal needs letter.

Submission Process

Applications are accepted from March 1 through April 30 each year.

Applicants must submit:

  1. A completed application form.

  2. A need-based letter outlining financial circumstances.

  3. Two references attesting to the applicant’s character, academic ability, or community involvement.

  4. Proof of current enrollment in a qualifying program.

Selection Process

The scholarship committee will review all applications, assessing eligibility, financial need, and commitment to health sciences. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. Final selections will be made in June, and awards will be disbursed for the fall semester.
